About GIS Day

National Geographic Society created Geography Awareness Week to be celebrated the third week of November and since 1999, the Wednesday of this week is celebrated as GIS Day

2019 marks the 20th (twentieth) anniversary of GIS Day.

“GIS (geographic information systems) is a computer system for capturing, storing, checking, and displaying data related to positions on Earth’s surface. This enables people to more easily see, analyze, and understand patterns and relationships.” – National Geographic Society
